This is the annual Sumida Taikai. The biggest fireworks festial in Tokyo. upto 1 million people come and see this. The fireworks actually go on for 1.5 hours from 2 spots. Here is a video of the atmosphere and the display. Last 2 minutes of the video is the actual last 2 minutes of the display. 29th July 2006

  • Outstanding! I blundered on the fireworks display that happened two years after your video: July 27, 2008. I was in Tokyo for one night, spoke no Japanese, and had no idea what all the hubbub was about or what people were celebrating.

    Congrats. If I'd been better prepared, I might have shot some better video.
