The following study is based around a great arpeggio idea Michael Lee Firkins plays on "The End of the Beginning" by Jason Becker.
It requires a technical command of sweeping, tapping, and fret-hand legato.

A transcription of the lesson can be found here: http://johngregson.wordpress.com/lessons/

(more information on CAGED can be found here:
http://www.cagedguitarsystem.net/)

Note that I'm not using a string-muting device - you'll need to use large quantities of both fret- and pick-hand muting in order to get a clear sound.

And remember: Speed is a by-product of accuracy!
