Dents in the rib of a shotgun barrel are a fairly common gunsmithing problem, but are easy to repair if you have the right tools. In this GunTec presentation Larry Potterfield, CEO and Founder of MidwayUSA, explains the proper process for removing dents from a shotgun rib using the Murray Vent Rib Shotgun Tool. This tool works similar to a jack, using a brass anvil to support the rib while a hoist raises the dented section.

Damaged how? In most cases ifs just crap stuck in the gooves. If its something else, it could be actual damage, and its quite hard to actually repair, if not impossible, and too be honest it would be best to give the gun up, they are stupidly cheap rifles and a new barrel, plus the needed time and tools needed to replace yours is at the least as much as another Mosin.

  • the inside of my mosin nagants barrel seems to be damaged what do i do?

  • Great vids these. As a shotgun novice, I find them really useful.

  • You can buy the tool at Midway USA

  • can you point me in teh direction to buy that tool? i got butter fingers with my bestfriends benelli m2 at the range.. has 1 soft dent in the ribbing near the chamber. i want to fix this before he comes home. will still tell him but rather fix it then see if he wants a new barrel... and benelli sucks for parts..

  • I want to work there :D

  • ever install a vented rib? i'm interested in learning how. great vids by the way.
