Romanian branch of "Columbia".
Volga - is the name of the longest and one of the most beautiful of Russian rivers. A lot of songs are devoted to it. "Volga- volga - mat' rodnaya, Volga - Russkaya reka" (Volga, volga - is our Mother, Volga - Russian river) - this is the words from one of russian songs . Volga - really is embodiment of russian soul.
This tango- - nostalgy about Russia in emigration.
" I am dreaming about Volga, more and
more from day to day, and I wish to return to my native house" - Alla Bayanova sings.

In my clip are used prerevolutional postcards with the views of the Volga.

A really nice nostalgic song. It must be born in mind, that Alla Bayanova was not an emigree, because she never emigrated, she simply stayed where she had lived when a part of Bessarabia gone from Russia to Romania. By the way the same sitation occured when Soviet Union collapsed -all Russians who happend to live in, say, Estonia - had lost their Russian Citizenship. Ignorance of a big country...

There are Youtube clips of Alla Bayanova singing at a concert in 2007 at age 93! She still has an amazing voice!

Make an experiment: Listen to the best female Argentinian tango singers and then listen to this recording again! This is the best female tango singer I have ever heard. And she is still performing, yet supposedly born in 1914. The lady is not just a great artist; she is a living historical monument. According to her biography, she performed with Vertinsky when she was only 13!

All that is right and even known to me...;),  from a very alike experience (home war) of my own family, in the past.

And this is a great coincidence that my nearest upload - tomorrow - will be devoted to "such a story".

Right, she returned home. But this territory has changed hands before. Well I cannot imagine Mrs Bayanova with her nobel ancestry was really willing to return to burning in a civil war Russia immediately. But she was a russian felt herself Russian and had submitted petitions for return permit to every leader of the USSR but it was not untill Gorbachev when

she was allowed to return. Unlike most European countries Russia does not recognize russian ancestry when considering immigration permit.

It is hard to say that she "simply stayed" as she left still in 1918 her place with parents for France and returned after more than a dozen years (already to Romania). Fact, that her nature might have been torn between two cultures with a strong predilection "for the first one".
