Today I'm going to burn the Confederate Flag. The Confederate Flag is a symbol of hatred and treason.

Really. It represents hatred because it represents a rogue nation that was formed to preserve and extend the most horrific institution in American history. It represents treason because it is the battle flag of a war that killed more than 600,000 Americans on behalf of that evil cause.

Neo-Confederates who defend this flag rely on revisionist history - the worst kind of history since it is essentially dishonest - and say that the Civil War was really fought for "state's rights" to resist high tarrifs and "big government" and that the flag represents their heritage and honors men who fought for "southern rights."

That is a bunch of babble. The only southern rights they fought for were the right to own slaves, and it's political leaders - especially the Vice President of the Confederacy, Alexander Stevens - specifically viewed African Americans as subhuman.

Once the war was over, the defeated South embarked on this revisionism in an effort to end Reconstruction - which had extended basic human rights to the former slaves, and sought to integrate them into society so they could pursue the American dream, and to strip African Americans of the rights they had been granted during Reconstruction. Thus began Jim Crow, and the denial of the Southern Redeemers.

If you fly this flag, you are no better then they are. That is why, Southrons, the Confederate Flag is an inherently toxic symbol that must be purged into disrepute, and that's what I have done here.

Heritage? MY ASS!

I was going to burn a real Confederate flag, but I didn't want to waste $30 on a real one, so I printed a picture of it from the internet and burned that.

UPDATE: Jon Stewart has a great take on VA. Gov. Bob McDonnell declaring "Confederate History Month" without a single reference to slavery, which as we all know, was the MAIN REASON THE CIVIL WAR WAS FOUGHT!!!

And by the time of the war slavery was dead in the North. Even as early as 1820 there will only be about 3000 slaves left in the North and that number is falling. (Macmillan Encyclopedia, "Slavery In The Civil War Era"). So no, there were on salver states in the North by the time of the war.

Troops of different ethnic groups existed in the confederation, Hispanics, Mexicans, Indians, Anglo ...

Slave states existed in the North.

The war was not for slavery or slavery.

After the War of the Union continued to oppress blacks, Indians, using them for economic wars in the world.

@Cionaodh57 .It seems ironic that you would associate others with Nazis when you're the one promoting a symbol of hatred. In fact, I've been called a bleeding heart Liberal, I support equality and freedom. Most often the Neo-Nazis are the skin head bigots, who promote the Confederate flag. Though I do agree with you most modern day "Confederates" do not burn the U.S. flag, they instead burn the houses of innocent minority families. You have the right to fly that flag, but we have the to burn it.
