Nancy Pelosi Asking Republicans For Their Vote: $700B Bill

Nancy Pelosi has absolutely no business being the speaker of the House. This is a Democrat controlled congress, therefore it is their responsibility to get legislation passed. I can't believe that they would bring a Bill to the floor that they were not sure would pass. If they thought that it was going to be close, then why in the world would this women go out and make such a political finger pointing speech?

I believe that she either wanted the Bill to fail, or she's incompetent and has no business being the speaker of the house.




House Republicans Blame Pelosis Speech

Patrick Yoest reports from Washington on Congress.

House Republicans blamed the failure of the $700 billion Wall Street rescue plan Monday on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), saying that Pelosi had been too partisan in a floor speech prior to the vote. (See the speech here, via CSPAN.)

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R., Ohio) said that Pelosis speech poisoned the Republican caucus and caused a number of members we thought we could get to go south.

I do believe that we could have gotten there today, had it not been for the partisan speech that the Speaker gave on the floor of the House, Boehner said. We put everything we had into getting the vote to get there today. Boehner added, however, that lawmakers have no choice but to work together and would have to find a middle ground to bring enough votes to avert a crisis.

Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R., Mo.) said he had 12 Republicans who would have voted for the bill but changed their minds, while Rep. Eric Cantor (R., Va.) holding up a copy of what he said was Pelosis floor remarks - said the speaker frankly struck the tone of partisanship. A senior aide to Pelosi rejected the Republican claims against the speaker, saying the suggestion that her speech motivated House Republicans to vote against the bailout plan was absurd.

You dont vote on the speech, you vote on the bill, said the aide.

Frank, speaking at a press conference, mocked the suggestion. Give me those twelve peoples names and I will talk uncharacteristically nicely to them, Frank said.

My Republican congressman voted against this Bill, and I don't necessarily disagree with him or you. But think of it this way - this has not been a free market taking place; it's been severely distorted by the federal government, (Freddie, Fannie). Do you think bankers would have been giving bad loans out if they were not going to be able to sell them? All I'm saying is that it has gotten so far out of control that maybe the government is the answer, but maybe not this exact Bill.

Call Nancy Pelosi @ (202) 225-0100 & let her know you want Congressional hearings investigating the mismanagement of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Tell her you want answers from Barney Frank and Chuck Schumer. Ask her why Franklin Raines and James Johnson were allowed to cook FM books enron style without being held accountable. Ask her why her democratic party refused reform of these entities in exchange for campaign donations.

This bill was sold to congress as a bail out for the housing industry then when passed the Fed used if to bail AIG, Goldman Sachs, Wachovia bank and others. When Bush was president Pelosi's favorite word was bi-partisanship. Now it is "all republicans fault".

Star-Kist is owned by Del Monte Foods and is a major contributor to Pelosi.

Star-Kist is the major employer in American Samoa employing 75% of the Samoan work force. Paul Pelosi, Nancy's husband, owns $17 million dollars of Star-Kist stock. In January, 2007 when the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $7.25 Pelosi had American Samoa exempted from the increase so Del Monte would not have to pay the higher wage.
