Propagating a new muscadine plant using a 2 liter bottle. Easy way to propagate a new cutting by using a 2 liter bottle and some topsoil. Leave bottle on plant until vine goes dormant in winter and then cut rooted shoot from vine. Heel in bare rooted plant for winter and plant in the following spring when buds begin to swell.

  • i did this recently and it totally works.... thanks for the tip...

  • Would it be possible to put the shoot in throught the part where the lid would go (opposite of what you did in the video) for vines that grow up instead of down?

  • Finally found the perfect propagating video!!!!!! That is AWESOME! Thank You soooooooo much for sharing! I have several 2 litre bottles. I made lumiarias out of them for Christmas. Again Thank you...............<3 Melody

  • @MrDunkiemon Look in someone's recycle bin/container to find used containers

  • That's a really nice way to get new roots!

  • The problem is that you have to buy a two liter bottle of coke. We don't drink coke sice my wife and I are both obese and the doctor advised us to stay away from soft drinks unless we excercise regorously on daily basis which brings me to the point that I have to get a Gym membership. These are all tied up. Or should I just waste my money by pouring the coke in the sink and use the bottle to propagate my Thompson seedless vine. Hummmmmmmmmmm.........

  • in the spring/summertime i am able to root muscadine cuttings in only 3 weeks to transplant

  • do you have to water the soil in the bottle?

  • air layering. will this technique work on other plants/vines?

i'm interested in growing hardy kiwi, for example.

    wonderful video!

  • cool thanks for the response I thought that would be the case but just needed confirmation :)
