A good friend of mine of years recently committed suicide, and music seems to be the only thing that makes me feel better (not better in the sense that everthing is okay) but I get lost in dave's songs. I even make my own videos in my head, I know it sounds stupid, but I have little movies playing in my head that go with the story in the song. has anyone ever had a song creep into a dream. just like in the background of movies, I'll have a dream and then a song will play over it..is that weird?

I'm sorry to hear that. Condolences to you and yours. That's interesting about your dreams. I love dreams. I'm a lucid dreamer myself and I've got some pretty cool "dream stories" I could share, but now that I think about it I never have had music in them the way you mention. Or even at all, which kind of surprises me. Weird.

hahah, cityondown36, you have got to be joking, I've studied at the con of music where i got my bachelor and have been teaching music for 10 years now, Tim IS a genius on guitar, it's not all about playing everything to text book , it's about being able to improv and do things that you feel in the moment, this is called playing with soul, and people that don't get it don''t have it. You think Hendrix hit every note as it was in the recorded version? and I think Dave Matthews might agree.

@Romans10Verse9 Your comment echoes my views exactly. I am glad that people see it that way as well. I'm in college learning fairly advanced theory and I work with some theory masters but I listen to dave and they all sound like musical fools in comparison. They have trained and they play great but they do not create, flourish, and take my breath away like Dave.

I know what you mean DMB2741. Ive been a DMB fan since they bagan and in 97 lost my father at 10 and this song hits home everytime cause it was what got me through some tough $h!t. I offer my condolence to you and yes thank God for Dave Matthews and his music to drown out the hectic roads life takes us on. Peace fellow DMB brother.

With that one note, I heard him say more than I've seen a lot of musicians say with many. Specifically shredding. THEORY is overrated. It's helpful, but people cling to it as if it WERE music. Without theory, there would still be music.
