This is the first of two videos that comprise part three of the 1984 Daytona 500. This race, run on February 19, 1984, is one of the forgotten jewels in the history of NASCAR. In fact, I consider this race, the 26th running of the Daytona 500, to be the greatest of all the Daytona 500s. It might not have had the most memorable moments, but from a pure competition standpoint, as far as the greatest drivers and teams in the history of the sport, and the all-day competition betwen the finest in the sport's history at their peaks, this ranks to me as the greatest Daytona 500 of all-time.

This third part of the 1984 Daytona 500 had to be split into two videos, due to YouTube's 15-minute time limit, as the third part actually stretched for 15 and a half minutes. Since I time my racing broadcast videos for between commercial breaks, and since this video would have exceeded the YouTube time limit of 15 minutes, I had to break it up into two videos, hence, this video will be called part 3A, with the next as part 3B, since nothing really significant happened to distiguish the two videos that make up this part of the broadcast. During this portion of the race, Cale Yarborough fends of challenges by Terry Labonte, then has to deal with Bobby Allison. Meanwhile, Dale Earnhardt, who started 29th, and Richard Petty, who started 34th, the worst starting position he ever had in the Daytona 500, are charging through the field, though for one of the very few times in his career, Earnhardt's charge is largely ignored.

O note, this is the first part that includes part of the ESPN Classic version of this race, to make it go smoothly. SPEED's version of this race went into commercial less than a lap after the restart from the caution that was caused by Dave Marcis' engine failure on lap 4. Nothing was missed, but since the original broadcast did not have a break at that point, my combined version doesn't either, as I tried to keep the integrity of the original broadcast intact as much as I could.

All credits go to SPEED, NASCAR, ESPN Classic, and CBS Sports, who originally broadcast this race on February 19, 1984.
