4Four is a tool translating the act of drawing into a musical performance. Graphic art and music have been linked for almost as long as either have existed. Kandinsky, Bartok and Debussy have all had their work interpreted as a bridge between the two disciplines, either by themselves or critics. Work by pioneering composers such as Wolff, Feldman and Penderecki sought to exploit new graphic notation that better recorded their experimental pieces.
As part of its ongoing development, Shigeru Ishihara aka DJ Scotch Egg was invited down to interact with an early prototype in December of 2008 in order to provide insight into the instrument as a tool for electronic music composition.
