NOTE: The break-wall is about 10ft high - for scale.

Today's storm that hit Chicago also wreaked havoc on the north shore of Lake Superior. The city of Thunder Bay was right in it's path. 100km/hr winds created 6 meter waves (18 ft) that battered the shoreline.

The footage is a little shaky because of the high winds and long lens. Digital zooming is also used to get a better look.

Enjoy the power!

  • I believe is was ISOLDA from Poland yes.

  • "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" performed by the Rheostatics, originally by Gordon Lightfoot.

  • I would rather drown in Lake Superior then listen to that version of the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald again .

  • @hanksnow82 haha - what even this version?

  • @skankatank (?)

(sorry accidentally deleted your post - you tube is acting funny tonight)

I'm afraid it is 10ft. 8ft maybe I'll concede. From the vantage point of a sailboat it might seem lower. I ask you this, can you see over it in most craft when you are close to it? The answer is no. Also, the door as a measure is quite useful. Most doors are seven-ish feet and it's shorter than the breakwall. That light house is the size of a three story house with a light on top.

  • No offence but I like the Gordon Lightfoot version the best. Only he can do it precisely.

  • Is that the saltie ISOLDA?

  • Crazy waves! I seen it on ThunderBayBuzz(dot)com which showcases Thunder Bay news, tweets, sports, Thunder Bay classifieds and entertainment. Really cool site that is showing Thunder Bay videos!

  • That storm, to be precise, had almost as low pressure as when the E.F. went down, a friend of mine who is an engineer and captain for boats 600ft+ boats on the great lake said every boat was told to go to harbor or port during this storm. Remember this is a HABOR. Recored wave heights on some of the buoys were 22ft and higher. I was surfing in Frankfort and the waves there were a solid 10-15 feet. On of the biggest storms we've had on the Great Lakes in 100 years. Pretty cool.

  • Thunder bay..... what can you say.... for such a small town it runs most of north americas drug trade.... legalize it...

  • i was fishing that day on a tugboat, the marrion g, the waves were huge, almost didnt make it back to shore
