  • Welles' version was chopped up until audiences stopped making fun of it. Wise, the editor, attributed the films failure to timing, a change in peoples sensitivities after the start of the war.

  • idealforcleaning - what is the ending of the version, if not happy, do you have? According to everything I have read, the deleted footage was destroyed. A longer version including deleted footage was never ever released. The reason for the butchering of the film was, after the war broke out, screening audiences razzed and laughed at how these people (Ambersons) took themselves so seriously. Ambersons, as Welles imagined it, was to be 131 minute Epic.

  • He was in Istambul shooting Norman's Foster film lol

And George Schaefer was who destroyed the rest of the footage =S

  • excuse me! what are you saying? you have a version that has deleted footage in it?? Do film historians know about this version?? wasnt welles in south america while his film was being destroyed?

  • The version of this film I have is much longer and doesn't have a happy ending. My father had thousands of 35mm films and one of them is The Magnificent Ambersons. I remember he told me that he'd got it from a sale of film stock in Brazil in the early 1960's. The version I have is much better than the one on TV I've seen. They should release the longer version on DVD.

  • A great movie...I like it very much...

  • Best scene in the film 2 b honest.

  • This is a great scene, but actually Welles' original scene was even greater: he made it in one shot.

  • One of my favorite films of all time!!!Mr.Welles is absolutley brilliant!!!

  • The greatest film ever made! No doubt!
