It's based on the English idiom of 'Elephant in the room' I think. Well that's what my English teacher told me anyway. 'An Elephant in the room is a problem that everybody knows very well but no one talks about because it is taboo, embarrassing, etc.' The kids shooting was a response to bullying that was obvious and had been going on a long time, so perhaps that's the reference. Also maybe they felt like nobody notices them too! Hope this helped!!

This came on extremely late the other day. I couldn't watch all of it. I think I stopped around where the kid was in the lunchroom or something, he looked sad. I still wantt to watch it. It seemed very interesting. At first I was skeptical about changing the channel because it seemed boring in the beginning. But this seems like a really good film. :D

I know where you're coming from, but I don't think that Gus was aiming to entertain with this one, the way he was aiming to entertain with Good Will Hunting. This was more experimental than anything else.

I highly recommend this film. It is one of them most emotional, suspenseful and eye-opening movies I have seen in a long time. Absolute genius Gus.

Nothing against Gus van Sant, I have seen Good Will Hunting and I loved it very much, but I tried watching this movie and I just couldn't, I found it very boring. Please no bad replies.
