Pulse and Urban Playground in Madrid September 2010

After the outstanding success of previous over seas trips including New York, Paris and many other European destinations Morpeth School and Cambridge Heath 6th Form have been invited once again by the prestigious British Council School (BCS) to perform at The Hay Festival, Segovia near Madrid. The BCS in Madrid provides a complete bilingual education service to over 2,000 infant, primary and secondary students. From the 23rd to 27th September 25 students from Morpeth and Cambridge Heath will be performing at this festival of big ideas, adventures in imagination, and music from the world's greatest musicians and entertainers. This will be their 4th time that Morpeth and Cambridge Heath 6th Form will have performed in Spain. "Pulse" -- a Barbican Arts supported Afro-Reggae and Brazilian influenced drumming and percussion band led by Ross McDouall and Jo Wills will be performing for the first time in Madrid while veterans "Urban Playground" -- The Morpeth School Big Band led by John Bennett will be making their 3rd appearance at the Hay Festival. During their 5 day tour Pulse and Urban Playground will also be performing to VIPS such as The President of the Madrid Regional Government and the British Ambassador. During their stay the students will be given a slice of real Spanish life by staying with host families. The Hay Festival has great educational benefits by bringing together some of the most current writers, thinkers and creators and allowing the students to enjoy their company and share their knowledge. During the Festival the Historic Castilian city becomes a space for discussion and debate.
