I hope your confusion has been cleared by now... the peter from our universe died to an illness. Walter brought and cured the Peter from the alternate universe to his our universe. Both Peters were going to die.

kb2k23, did you watch the first season at all? Final Show last season they showed Walter at Peters Tombstone. so you're right he is from the other dimension. that's why Peter doesn't seem to remember anything from, his childhood.
