OMG! Yes, Gene Autry is my hero too. I'm 24 and LOVE Gene Autry. I wish I could have been acting when he was making movies cause it'd have been an honor to work with him! There will never be another Gene Autry. This song is so me. I used to pretend like I was on the trail with Gene as well. Gene Autry, a REAL hero...unlike so many famous ppl today.

We were blessed to have this man for so long on the earth. He was blessed with a long and full life! His wife must miss him so :(

@kennbix Ken, I'm 10 years behind you, and would gladly trade whatever time I've got left to have lived in the days when Gene, Smiley, Roy and Gabby held sway. I'm JUST old enough to have caught the tail end of it. But I'd trade my soul for more.

Beautiful song. This version sounds like Don Edwards'. Marty Robbins also made a great recording of it. Both are good company for the legendary Gene Autry and both loved him.

@LadyShesu It ain't fun anymore! No more Hopalong Cassidy, Tim Holt, or. Lash La Rue..! All the fun's gone..!

@pintsizedgonzo You almost made me cry, mi compadre.
Some things are just plain worth it. Happy Trails to your father and you. Marty Robbins said it all in this song. Sad, when people make fun of a man who served his country. And so did Marty Robbins!

@biltom Imagine! A cowboy hero who looks like he takes a bath every day!

Man, they tell me, you mus' be a punk! you look at movies, where there's no cussin', and a hero who looks like he bathes every day? What kind of chump are you, where girls aren't called bitches and ho's in the picture? And nobody taking their clothes off! After all these years, I guess I'll stay a chump. And, he actually served his country! Just like my father, uncles, and my big brother did! Damn! I did, too! Then, I'm glad Im a chump!
need more people like Mr Autry

Zipper, thanks for the message. Much appreciated and totally agree. My father saw some heavy action in WWII and I had the utmost respect for him, and still do. The more that I read and heard about Mr. Autry, the same goes for him. A true American hero, and one who provided some of the best memories that a son could ever ask for with his father. Much thanks and God bless to all those who serve and have served this great nation of ours!
