I was a faithful AMC fan for 20 or 25 years (my only soap) and I QUIT watching the day after they killed off Dixie in this scene. I absolutely was stunned, bewildered, and SO ANGRY. They were magic together (Tad and Dixie).... simply magic. I still miss them both. But I vowed never to watch it again. (Well, not unless they can figure out a way to bring Dixie back and she and Tad reunite again). Feb 2011.

as for why Cady was fired, what she herself said in a blog. she wrote about how she was vocally against [BEHIND THE SCENES] turning Tad into Madden's torturer/murder & w/ how they were planning to basically sweep it under the rug [ they did]. also how she thought it was inappropriate/irresponsible to do a torture s/l w/ what was going on in the world at the time. however, they of course told her the same ol' same old..*the gist* we ran out of s/l ideas for your character so she'll be killed off.

clarification to what abyss104 is saying...no that ISN'T so.
in fact, Cady wrote a blog saying how disppointed she was w/ Julia Barr/Brooke leaving [there were even specs/rumors that for making that tribute to her, Cady got fired. which she clarified wasn't so, given how JHC approved that blog, before she put it up at the ABC site]. also Julia B. WASN'T fired! but she basically was forced to quit w/ how they were offering her recurring and she wanted to be utilized/have s/l.

Why couldn't Josh Madden have her hidden like Babe?He faked her death so he could try and save her. Dixie deserves to come back and find Kate with Tad. That scenerio would work in the Soap world.

Did you hear that Cady McClain will return as Dixie in April but as a ghost?? She's going to help Tad guide him to Kate. What a rip off to all of us T/D fans!! We wanted Dixie ALIVE when they found Kate!!!
