Jeff Lewis, National Director of FIRE Coalition, interviews Sheriff Terry Johnson, Alamance County, North Carolina, about his participation in the federal 287(g) program. Section 287(g) of the federal Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, which became law in 1996, allows state and local law enforcement officers and employees to perform the same functions as federal immigration (ICE) officers. As a participant of this program, Sheriff Johnson provides valuable insight for state and local government leaders as to the benefits of 287(g).
OPERATION FIRE AND ICE ( http://OperationFIREandICE.com ) is a project of FIRE Coalition, and was created to assist state and local law enforcement with participation in the 287(g) program. The public benefits from learning about 287(g) as well, since often the push for their local governments to begin enforcing federal immigration laws comes from ordinary citizens, not their political representatives.

The 287 g helps to end the revolving door and "catch and release" with illegal aliens. It is a valuable tool to protect communities and as Sheriff Johnson says it is about doing what is right and best for the community. It is about following the law.
Illegal aliens will leave with the 287 g. States should want law enforcement to participate in immigration enforcement. Free services and benefits given to illegals and paid for by the citizens of the United States.
Thank you Sheriff Johnson.
