Novel theory, but with one relay it will not work. If you "bring a feed from each light" to one relay you are in effect connecting all the lights together. So switch any one light on, and they all come on.
You need a relay for each light, or a multi way relay.
Why not buy some Emergency lights and cut the supply? They will also work in a power cut, mains lights won't. Cheaper and easier to understand.

@bluecylinder thanks for your comment :)
i use a separate pole for each light, i'm not THAT stupid ;)
i wanted to use EMG lights (although i would probably use maintained ones and put a supply to the L2 connection to not wear the batteries down) but my dad does not want them as they 'look ugly' so this was the best alternative.
