@Johnlindsey289 Saw was a cross between Silence of the Lambs, Seven, the bloody Italian giallos and early torture porns like this and Witchfinder General. I wasn't aware that Capt. Spaulding was really considered a true horror icon but whatever. The political overtones of 9/11 in movies like Hostel aren't all that difficult to see but it's really not that important a factor to consider. The original TCM and LHOTL had political overtones of Vietnam, after all. CH & HOTEOTP were both shocking too.
Saw was more in the tradiiton of Silence of the Lambs and Dario Argento, And all do you think Jigsaw is more of a new generation horror icon like Ghostface and Captain Spaulding? I thought Hostel was an excellent return to grindhouse shockers like Maniac, The New York Ripper, Cannibal Ferox etc. but had some political overtones to it on 9/11 as much as 70's was to Nam. People just don't look in the political issues of some horror movies.
@Johnlindsey289 Saw was okay but it was basically just a ripoff of Seven, which is a far superior film in every way. Jigsaw is kind of a boring killer compared to Freddy Krueger and is much closer to being this generation's Hannibal Lecter. This film is just as shocking as those others you mentioned only better made. Ichi the Killer is equally as good as this film even though i see it as more of a gory dark comedy than true horror. I thought Saw was better than Hostel but CF was better than both.
Oh come on, the original Saw was excellent on it's own but too many un-needed sequels. Jigsaw is the next Freddy Krueger for this generation. Would you compare this to Men Behind The Sun, Salo, Bloodsucking Freaks, In a Glass Cage, Ichi The Killer, Ilsa, The Untold Story and other shockers? and you thought the original Hostel was alright but not as good as Cabin Fever. Eli Roth was influenced by this and those shockers when he made Hostel.
One of the most infamous horror joints from Germany. I happen to have this on DVD. The movie was indeed excellent but the ending disappointed me very much.
saw this in la when it came out the only movie that i saw where people was running out of. i all most killed my seif running lol only in 70s woud thy give you barf bag to see a movie but had a good time!!!!
Ha! That music that plays from around ;10 to around :26 is the background music that was behind LOTS of previews/coming attractions at our local movie theaters back in the 70's. That certainly brings back lots of memories from my teen years!!!
@Johnlindsey289 Haven't seen those two yet. But I'll make a point to .
