Not sure if you live in Los Angeles however it is rare that planes land from the ocean or take off towards inland. Unless there are extreme weather issues planes take off and land facing the ocean. If you are flying in from Asia, you actually go inland a ways, come about and enter the glide slope. Just FYI :)
