If nebraska had won this game they more than likely would have won the National Title as #2 Georgia lost the Sugar Bowl that night to #10 Pitt while #3 Alabama had lost to #6 Texas that afternoon in the Cotton Bowl

Hilarious. NBC used the Monty Python "Olympic Hide and Seek Final" song to intro its national championship coverage. Hearing Don Criqui over what John Cleese might have talked over is so funny, but cool. I miss Criqui and Trumpy. Heck, I miss how NBC did college football bowl games. Best ever. Bring 'em back for the BCS.

Craig was Nebraska. Osborne said it was his best team ever. Also RB Mike Rozier, WR Irving Fryar, QB Turner Gill. Nebraska Center Dave Rimington (Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award winner) was pushed around by NT William (The Refrigerator) Perry all night. Besides Perry, Clemson had LB Jeff Davis, FS Terry Kinard, WR Perry Tuttle, PK Donald Igwebuike and alot of really good players.

I know Clemson was undefeated and ranked #1, but was that really a good Nebraska team they faced (and beat)?

It was what the "powers that be" decided was the best at that time. Tom Osborne said it was his best team ever as Nebraska head coach. Their offensive lineman, Dave Remington, was the Outland Trophy winner for that season (and William Perry manhandled him the entire game). They had lost two of the first three games of the season, but had won the last eight games going into the Orange Bowl. Pittsburgh may have been the better team, but they had lost their final regular season game to Penn State.
