The story is, as far as I can tell, that she is suffering from acromegaly (enlarged pituitary gland due to abnormal causes). Whatever is affecting her pituitary is also affecting some other parts of her brain, so she is learning-impaired (that's why she's in 3rd grade despite being 14). She is having to go to the doctor regularly at a cost of ~16000 yen per month(?).
The only thing the local doctor said was that fixing the problem would be difficult.
Someone knowing more Japanese might be able to explain this better?

malee is currently the worlds tallest living teenager at 17 also she isn't learning impaired she just missed loads of school because 1. her father and brother were embarrassed and 2. they couldn't find a school that had tall enough roofs for her either way she had to do a few years again
