@MiyahSummer She was sick. She had a biological chemical imbalance. No one can cause that.
-
@missmephistopheles Theres no evidence that she was Bipolar. She was most likely Unipolar, experiencing extreme depression but not the manic episodes that occur with Bipolar disorder.
-
@missmephistopheles I dont think she was bipolar.

not everyone responds to trauma the same way.

@MiyahSummer Lots of people don't have relationships with their fathers but they don't become manic depressives. She was depressed & suicidal long before she met her husband but he certainly exacerbated her pathology. Manic depression appears to have a biological origin, neurochemical imbalance & is often genetic. I've read some of her poetry & one of her books. She mainly seems depressed to me but I can fully understand her anger at her husband & the way talented women were treated.

@mmedefarge He probably created the illness which caused the depression that caused her to be so angry with the world. Have you read and of her poetry? All of her work, while good, has an angry rhythm to it..
-
@mmedefarge No wonder she felt depressed when he treated her like that and she was also lonely. Finally, she also had no relationship with her father while growing up. Have you read "Daddy?"
-
She may have been bi-polar but he Hughs was no good for her at all and it made things worse...

Several sources. The famous night that they first met, he had ripped off her earrings & headband & had pushed her; that's when she bit him. According to a friend whom she confided in, soon after they were married, while still on honeymoon, they were sitting alone on a bluff when he tried to strangle her. Hughes also took control of her estate after her death & destroyed several of her diaries & poems. He he both controlled & profited from what was posthumously published of her work.

Plath suffered from bipolar disorder and depression, she was very ill, her mental state was fragile...he was simply a huge prick.
