Taking the long way home, Laura guided us down the peninsula and through Newport. This area was a hot bead of tourists and hip locals. While not as affluent as the mainland Newport it lacked none of its attitude.
We eventually came to the ferry crossing and drove the car onto the ferry with two other vehicles and a handful of pedestrians and cyclists. It was surreal sitting in the driver's seat with the engine off feeling us move anyway. Then looking beyond the dash to the passing waves was really surreal.
