Great video for a great horse.
And his loss to Seabiscuit only meant that Seabiscuit was the better horse that day.
Which is also why I don't like the idea of Match Races. They only prove, if ever, which horse is the better in that particular moment. And the risk of ruining a horse, because Match races are usually flat out sprints all the way, is just not worth it.
They were both great horses, let's just keep it that.

@HarbingerOfBattle Post positions aren't decided by how good or bad a horse is. They are randomly drawn.

and the better horses get to wear added weight....sometimes horrible amounts...as they did to seabisuit...par lap, etc....they sincerely tried to kill these horses back then...
-
@katklub ...yeah, they assign weight based on previous performances, but not post positions, which is what we we were talking about. Post positions are randomly drawn.

@Rockandrollalchemist Yeah they handicap horses based on reputation. The handicap is how much weight they must carry
-
@raynewolfe43 it means these 2 horses were gonna push each other to the final length who ever won deserved it

war admiral still >seabiscuit

I am not fluent in race track lingo...Could someone please tell me what the announcer meant when he said there were a couple of speed horses and that kept the track honest? TY

In response to the question as to what color War Admiral was, I do not know if the it is still the practice but in War Admiral's time a horse's registered color was largely determined by the color of the nose/muzzle at the time of filing. War Admiral was listed as a bay, but he become much darker as he grew. All contemporary accounts I have seen say the horse was essentially black, though perhaps not a true, deep black, which is a rare color in thoroughbreds (as is true white).

@rannyray Yes, and that's why War Admiral is ranked a lot higher than Biscuit in the Blood Horse rankings (not just a few places higher) - because he was the better horse.

in most races the horses starting positions are randomly assigned
Why did they put War Admiral on the inside post in the dirby if his reputation was so high? One would think he would be closer to the outside

Maybe they had no choice?
