I agree. Buy a metronome. Your technique is pretty decent... Better than mine is anyway. But your timing is terrible. Work through the scales on a slow beat and then progress up.

I tell you, timing is the only thing I've ever been great at. My ear is perfect (not trying to inflate my ego), but my speed and technique need some work. Then again, I did play guitar for a couple years before I picked up my bass only a few months ago...

Got any tips for me in the speed/technique department?

I'm not the right one to give away suggestion but, if you have a good ear, choose a riff from your favourite bass player, slow it down without altering the pitch, play along and once you got it speed it up til you can play it at its original speed.

Wow. I'm no where near your level so can I ask, as maybe your video does not have a high enough frame rate, but how are you doing the dead notes in between? Are those palm, finger, thumb or a combination?
