A quick word about how personal this is to me:

I have not written about this, because I am a pretty private person when it comes to real things in my real life, but I know a couple people who are affected by MS to varying degrees in their lives. Someone who I look up to a lot and I love very dearly has had the illness for more than 15 years and it has become a very major and real part of his everyday life, which serves as a daily reminder for me to do all that I can to try and help the cause in every way I can. I have seen firsthand how difficult living with MS can be.

Project for Awesome is a day that we are meant to talk about things that are truly important to us, that we unconditionally care about. I have always held back from this, speaking about causes that are of concern to me, but are always at arms length. I decided that this year would be different, and while it has been something that I have been reticent to speak about it in the past, I hope that talking about it with you today can help me get past the stigma that so many people feel when talking about debilitating diseases that are not commonly known or accepted. After all, I had no idea what MS was until it started to become an everyday fact in my house. It may not get the most press coverage, or have the most ribbons worn for it, I hope that the donations I am able to raise during Project for Awesome this year are the first in a long line of raised funds that I am able to contribute to helping to battle MS in the future. If nothing else, I hope that you are learn more about the disease and become part of an educated population on how we can cure it and other related ailments in the future.

If you watched my video and made it this far into reading, I thank you very much. Happy Project for Awesome Day.

And Dad - this one is for you, I Love You very much. Here is to you getting a little bit better every single day.

  • like your dad, my mom has had MS for over 15 years. it's truly heartbreaking how much it breaks a person down. thanks for bringing attention to a disease that is in desperate need of a cure.

  • JK Rowling's mom died of multiple sxlerosis

  • My Aunt has MS. She was actually diagnosed with it on her birthday. Once in the hospital the doctors were amazed she was even able to move her lips to speak but she is doing all that and even walking around. I do believe this disease needs more publicity. Thanks for posting this :)

  • My mum has MS :( its hard to live with and its hard to watch her getting sicker and sicker and struggling to do simple things like pick up my little brother or walk up the stairs. It hurts but its nice to know that other people are going through the same thing and that other people (like the MS society) are here to offer help and support. The thing is I'm only 14 and my brother is younger and I'm worried it will take over his life :( sorry for just putting this all on here i know its annoying :/

  • I was 3 when my Dad was also diagnosed with MS and I've grew up watching him get sicker.

So I want to Thank You Alex for helping the MS Society and also for making more people aware of what MS is :)

  • -3 to you and yours on this Solstice night. Now to go spend boat loads of money on Bandcamp.

  • Only a day or two after seeing this video on P4A day, I went singing with my youth group to shut-ins and met a women with MS. I had never understood how bad it was till then. Seeing this video earlier helped me understand better.
