**Always follow the instructions in your repair manual when doing repair or maintenance work on your motorcycle. Clymer makes a good repair manual for the Kawasaki KLR 650.**

This video shows how to change the oil and oil filter on a 2009 Kawasaki KLR 650. The tools used to do the oil and filter change are:

8mm socket for oil filter cover bolts
17mm socket for the oil drain plug
Torque wrench for inch pounds
Torque wrench for foot pounds
Oil drain pan

Specifications:
-Bolts for oil filter cover are tightened to 78 in.-lbs
-Drain plug bolt is tightened to 21 ft.-lbs
-Oil Capacity with oil filter change: 2.6 qts or 2 quarts & 19.2 ounces
-Oil Capacity without oil filter change: 2.3 qts or 2 quarts & 9.6 ounces

The oil I used in this KLR is Mobil 10W-40 Synthetic Motorcycle oil. The oil filter is OEM from Kawasaki part number: 16099-004.
