If June was the month of Pride, July is the month of family. Large and small Davis - Chavarria gatherings are happening from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Saltillo, Coahuila. Next up Kansas City this weekend. Last weekend, on the Fourth of July, my parents came out for a lovely holiday in Ocean Grove, what the Methodists of the Camp Meeting Association refer to as 'God's Square Mile at the Jersey Shore.' Barbara and Neal were our gracious hosts and we enjoyed walks on the boardwalk, a small town parade, an organ concert and fireworks on the beach. It was amusing to see Dad heckling the Republicans at the Parade - now that's change you can believe in. Yes, we can. God, country, mom, apple pie and lots of ice cream. What more could you ask for?
I do miss the beauty and the atmosphere of OG. I recognize the Howard Johnson's there near the Paramount Pavillion, too. My dad, Hank Sherman / K2KAB is his ham callsign, was the founder/director of the Happy Days String Band and they used to play atop it in the bandshell when I was a kid in the early 70s. We used to live at 116 Cookman Ave & Delaware.
