Santa bringing gifts = shaman collecting and distributing amanita muscaria shrooms

red/white = amanita caps

flying reindeer = reindeers' real life love of amanita shrooms - they seek them and even dig to find them

christmas tree = coniferous tree with which amanita shrooms have symbiotic relationship

stockings over fireplace = drying the amanita caps
