Short clip of a Sports Chanbara (Spochan for short) sparring session at Asian Sword Arts of South Carolina (Clemson, SC, USA). Sports Chanbara is padded weapons sparring taught through the Japanese Department of Recreation & is starting to become popular in other countries as well.

ASASC is a licensed school through the All Japan Goshindo Federation/International Sports Chanbara Association (Yokoham, Japan) & instructor Thomas Urso is the SC state representative for the AJGF/ISCA.

  • This looks like what a Kendo Mcdojo would look like !

  • @DEKA1 As the title states, this clip is a demo of Sports Chanbara (All Japan Goshindo Federation), not Kendo (International Kendo Federation). The term McDojo would indicate an illegitimate school based solely on $ profit. Sports Chanbara has honbu is Yokohama City, Japan & is a member of the Nihon Rekurashon Kyokai (Japan Recreation Association). For a greater in depth explanation of Goshindo by a well respected instructor in Japan, please view "watch?v=_KDvKR7tZzk".

  • Pretty good comeback. Lol. I'm gonna be in your area this year. Perhaps you might give me a chambara lesson?

  • @uker23 Thanks. You certainly have a friendly invitation to come & train. If Sports Chanbara is not your cup of tea, perhaps Goshindo Kenjutsu with bogu & hatsuwari, traditional Kum Do (Korean Kendo) or Toyama ryu Battodo maybe more to your interest. In any case, I think that you will find my school's atmosphere is friendly & you are most welcome to visit.

  • @temn1k Not sure why you consider this creepy & cowardly? Regardless if it is Sports Chanbara, Kendo or gekkiken, the match is determined by the equipment & the rules agreed upon. As keiko in the Japanese sword art of Goshindo can be performed with modern padded weapons, kendo shinia, fukuro shinai, bokuto, mogito, etc., the rules for engagement will vary depending on what sparring equipment is used.

  • @temn1k Kiai is important during keiko.

  • lol nothing like us over here we dont move forward and back we are all over the place

  • @tomurso - I like your energy. Big respect for the Toyama Ryu Battodo. I might be touring on the East coast soon. I will make an effort to stop by. Thanks for the invite.

  • @uker23 Thanks goodness that you didn't choken uke.

  • I'm choken back the laughter.
