have you ever done construction? how about lifting something over your head while standing on a ladder? how about scaffolding? working in slippery conditions?
I do agree that unstable surface training is not very sensible in almost all cases... in fact there's evidence that it can actual screw up movement patterns in athletes, especially power athletes. I would never put an athlete on this exercise. But for the forty year old construction worker... i might consider it.
