  • I have to admitt I didn't like this on the first listen, having just listened to Dessay's. Diana's my favorite singer but I had very specific expectations of how Olympia is sung. BUT after the third listen I'm starting to really love it. That's the thing about Diana, just as her voice is unique and full of unexpected talents, so are her interpretations! She's like no other an it does not do to try comparing her. Diana doesn't sound like Dessay or any other singer and I don't want her to!!

  • @geiger Most Olympias don't sing the four roles. You can't warm up your voice high enough to sing this because you wouldn't be able to sing Antonia, Giulietta and Stella properly.

  • @FoxyGrandpa Not that we could get. I think she sang it in Würzburg in 2001-ish. It's very likely that the opera house owns a recording of the performance, but those recordings hardly ever see the light. Sometimes a very obscure classical station in Germany will play (relatively) old recordings; we'd probably found out about it.

  • Damrau tiene una voz preciosa y buena técnica, pero no le queda Olympia!!!

  • @Lilith89ibz is there a recording of this anywhere?

  • @sweetpepper36 Yes, at the beginning of her career.

  • @MrLupo23 Unless you are trying to stretch your vocal range and not lose your high notes, which is what she intended...

  • @Lilith89ibz I understand about the 4 roles and respect that. I was saying I like it in the lower key for the High E-naturals (ornamented twice that I heard as I listened quickly and not carefully so there could be more), as opposed to the high E-flats in the other version (which if she did same ornaments would have had Fs in it, but we all know Diana has proven herself with her High Enaturals, Fs, F#s, and Gs. She doesn't need to prove anything to me!

  • Oh no... I would never ever expected she was going to transpose it down... Not good, we are not in the '60 anymore. If somebody is not comfortable anymore in singing one role, he/she should not do it.

  • This is so out of style. She should have left Olympia and sung the other roles.

  • Pleasant and enjoyable, thank you for posting
