Wester Swing music from the 1940s. This has Noel Boggs on Steel, which means after the war probably 1946.
Alex Beshear on trumpet plays it without a mute. That was quite unusual for him. Also Tommy sings it. When Bob made the Okey 78, the vocalist was Danny Alguire, who also played trumpet. Tommy had joined the army when that session took play. So here we get to hear the way he would have done it. Just wish the quality was better.

Notice the accordian? Bob never used one in his recordings, and I have to wonder where Noel plugged in his steel guitar. Behind a tree? Hot session, though.

  • There is a noise at 1:35 in this song that scared the ever-loving crap out of me. I was listening with headphones as I was working and it sounded like someone coughed in my ear. Holy hell. My heart won't stop beating fast. I USED TO love this song! LOL

  • My mom was 8 months pregnant (with me) when this song was recorded. She used to play it for me on old 78 rpm's. Thanks for sharing !!

  • who is the left handed fiddler?

  • zxaxsdfcxdwqbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbok

  • The record label was Okeh, not Okey.

  • @Banks1042 If they show them again. Unless I'm mistaken, Durango Kid movies, just like Tim Holt movies, have run their course on Encore Westerns. However, folks are selling Durango Kid movies on Ebay. No idea of the quality, but at least they're available. It's worth a buy just to get all these Bob Wills/Tommy Duncan songs.

  • BWISTK

  • After weeks of promoting their first appearance on the Grand Ol’ Opry about 1939, Bob arrived with forbidden drums, brass and reed instrumentation and Leon’s electric steel guitar. The Honorable Judge Hay had no choice but to capitulate on his rules, after Bob advised, “We’ll go on down early to play a dance here, where we’ll make a lot more money.”

Ray Benson with Asleep At The Wheel, George Strait, Merle Haggard and many others carry on the Western Swing music today.

  • The movie is Lawless Empire - It also features: Stay all Night, Stay a Little Longer; Farther Along; and Young and Foolish.

Blazing the Westerrn Trail features: Time Changes Everything; Ida Red; and Goodbye Liza Jane. Catch them on Encore Western when they show them the next time.

  • This is one of the Durango Kid movies, but I'm not sure which movie...yet.
