John Pilger's documentary explores the historic and current relationship of Washington with countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile. Pilger claims that the film "...tells a universal story... analyzing and revealing, through vivid testimony, the story of great power behind its venerable myths. It allows us to understand the true nature of the so-called "war on terror". According to Pilger, the films message is that the greed and power of empire is not invincible and that people power is always the "seed beneath the snow".

Pilger interviews several ex-CIA agents who purportedly took part in secret campaigns against democratic countries and who he claims are profiting from the war in Iraq. He investigates the School of the Americas in the U.S. state of Georgia, where General Pinochets torture squads were reportedly trained along with tyrants and death-squad leaders in Haiti, El Salvador, Brazil and Argentina.

  • I always hated Clarridge and all the others like him. He was one of Reagan's men, but I never had any use for him.

  • All you have to do is compare Bolivia to Chile and make up your own mind.

  • Why does he fail to mention that Lozada has been the subject of a US civil lawsuit for victims because of this very same issue? In addition, he was - "US puppet or sympathizer or not" democratically elected by the Bolivian people - twice. Leftist violence - justified or not - led him to resign early. He sought asylum in the US, but was not granted it though he was allowed to live in MD during his wife's studies there. I'm not saying he's a good guy, I'm just saying this distorts facts a bit.

  • A CIA agent stated that the CIA are responsible for most wars in third world countries. And this war on terrorism is a hoax, an excuse to rob citizens of their rights. What America has done to other countries in the name of democracy -- which really is a plutocracy-- is now being done to America. The Federal Reserve has robbed America and is destroying and bankrupting the nation. The world is being divided between the super rich and the rest of us. And all governments are corrupt.
