  • @sciencehighway you're right.... I think the moon base should be established first, then Mars... sadly we're broke and now rely on the Russians.. I would not have stopped the shuttle this soon but on that point never felt the same way about NASA after the Challenger and Columbia fiascos... unforgiveable..

  • @irish89055 True, though it's also worth considering, as others have suggested, that had Shepard launched in March of 61 as originally planned (a final chimp test was substituted instead), there might never have been an Apollo program, the race having been won. (In full disclosure I've often heard this theory but have never accepted it. President Kennedy might have delayed Apollo but we still would have gone, just as we'll eventually return to the moon and go on to Mars. Eventually.)

  • I sure hope that one dislike was a mistake....why would anyone object to this?

  • @GGE47 If the US wasn't so cautious with the lanches we'd prob have beaten the Soviets Gagarin and Sputnik too... they wanted a race and got one..

  • These sorts of heroes are missing from the world today....

  • John Glenn's flight was delayed a number of times by either technical problems or the weather.I don't remember how many times Glenn got in that Mercury capsule only to have the flight scrubbed.Originally set for December 20,1961,he finally got to go on February 20,1962.It was all worth it.
