Chesapeake Bay Bridge commercial featuring Governors Robert L. Ehrlich and Marvin Mandel
From May 8th, 2006:
Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., today gave an advanced screening of Maryland's newest E-ZPass TV commercial, which features Governor Ehrlich and former Governor Marvin Mandel teaming to help Bay Bridge travelers "take the heat out of summer travel."
"This year, we're putting a new twist on the 'Go Early, Stay Late' message. Go early and use E-ZPass when heading to the Eastern Shore; but coming home, stay late and take a side trip to one of the many spectacular destinations on the Eastern Shore," said Governor Ehrlich.
"I applaud the work of the Maryland Transportation Authority, Department of
Transportation and Department of Business and Economic Development for partnering with local governments to ease congestion at the Bay Bridge and elsewhere."
Governor Ehrlich announced that the new commercial is the first piece of the Authority's 2006 Taking the Heat Out of Summer Travel program for the Bay Bridge. The program's public-outreach urges drivers to:
• Get E-ZPass,
• "Go Early, Stay Late,"
• Call 1-877-BAYSPAN anytime for current bridge traffic conditions, and
• "Keep their cool" and be safe drivers when crossing the bridge.
"When we introduced the first three steps last year, motorists listened and helped make the first year of Taking the Heat Out of Summer Travel a success," said Robert L. Flanagan, Maryland Transportation Authority Chairman and State Transportation Secretary.
"We're creating a real partnership with travelers that empowers them to take
control of their travel and help avoid congestion and delays at the Bay Bridge."
New this year is the safety program to help reduce accidents on the bridge.
"We've found accidents to be the single largest source of congestion at the bridge," said Authority Executive Secretary Trent M. Kittleman.
"You'll hear more in the next few weeks about a program we're piloting to help you 'Keep Your Cool and Pace Your Space' while driving the Bay Bridge."
The 2006 E-ZPass TV commercial, which is slated to run through June 30, will begin airing in the Baltimore market this week and in the Washington, D.C., market beginning in June.
Call 1-877-BAYSPAN 24-hours-a-day for current Bay Bridge traffic conditions. Before traveling, visit www.baybridge.com to view real-time images from the bridge's approaches.
