Jake Shields (born January 9, 1979) is an American mixed martial artist who is currently fighting in the welterweight division of the UFC. He is the last Rumble on the Rock 175 lb (79 kg) champion. He is the first and last Elite XC Welterweight Champion. He is also the former Shooto Middleweight Champion and is the former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion. He has trained extensively with Cesar Gracie, and is a member of the "scrap pack" which includes fellow Cesar Gracie students Dave Terrell, Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz and Gilbert Melendez. Since his last loss to Akira Kikuchi he has had 14 consecutive wins in 5 years. Shields is currently fighting at Welterweight for the Ultimate Fighting Championships organization.

Shields is currently the #3 ranked middleweight in the world in the USA Today/SBN consensus Top 25 poll. Shields is also currently the #8 ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world by Sherdog

Styles makes fight is the old boxing saying but it is 100X more fitting towards mma. Kampman is going to want to stay standing and shields will be going for takedowns that kampman won't be able to stop. Shields is 3 takedowns away from a triumphant ufc debut.

@TheAdrenalineEffect I saw his last fight against Henderson I was impressed but he needs to finish with a submission against a guy like Kampmann. Nothing will make me happier than him beating the overrated GSP. Love to see Shields vs Fitch.

All the hype behind Jake Shields he BETTER finish a guy like Kampmann. I'm tired of the UFC bringing in guys who aren't up to the hype. Shields better finish this fight or win in impressive fashion to get a title shot.
