  • get new processor!

  • @bobctx Not my laptop. I was fixing it for a friend.

  • i recently got the YLOD and yes it had the same sloppy applied thermal paste and had to reflow the bga's and used OCZ Freeze from OCZ Technology. I know you always use Arctic Silver 5 but I read a lot of reviews saying that this kept their cpu about 3-4 degrees cooler than Arctic Silver 5. You should do a comparison to see if its true, just letting you know. Oh and my PS3 is running again!

  • @xdeadwaterx Artic Silver 5 has kept my computers cooler than OCZ freeze. we use it at work and it isn't as good. The OCZ freeze is mostly water, whereas Artic Silver 5 is very thick and doesn't dry out like the competition.

  • After my Dell XPS M1530 came back from the factory for GPU repair under a class action law suit, the fan was constantly on.1st thought it was some firmware changes. When it started to shut down all the time, opened it up, found the thermal compound was thicker than caulking I put on my windows. Spent an hour literally chipping it away off thermal assembly with an Xacto knife. Plus another 1/2 hour on the chips with my finger nails. 90% alcohol was useless when it is that thick.

  • i have an acer laptop and the fan is making a ton of noise, apparently this is a common problem with them. Can anyone suggest a make of laptop that is reliable and well priced as a replacement because I will never go with aver again.

  • i bought a Toshiba laptop and it had overheating problems so i opened it up and found out that the heat sink and fan was held on by one screw where there should have been four and there was no thermal paste at all at the end it died of a corrupt hdd

  • It's pa-the-tic.

  • ill be opening my acer e627 this weekend god knows what ill find in there since my core temp is constantly on 80+ degrees C. probably no thermal paste left at all in there

  • Your theory is right on! Had the same problem and fixed it by applying new thermal paste. Thanks kido ;).

  • I give props for this man for his credation and admire the input.

  • Hello,

This is going on far more than other think. I've seen over 47 Dell and Acer systems with this vary same problem, with todays' chipsets getting hotter it's a must-have to have or aquire (the company should've done so) so as to run a system at it's potential. Anyone who says in addition otherwize is (bluntlly) an ignorant and ubseen person. When applying thermal compound, there should be a "pea-sized" portion, not a mess like SONY, Dell, or Acer does on a day-to-day basis. CASE CLOSED
