Just a quick close up around the Beachtek DXA-2T with my Kodak Zi8 recording at 1080i.
Notice the focusing challenge with Kodak within 3 feet of a subject.

  • What kind of tripod is used here?

  • @TimTV83 Manfrotto 190Xv Tripod + HDV701 Tripod Head

  • @OnlineVideoExpert Thanks, I have this camera as well, albeit the US NTSC model. Also, do you know of any good aftermarket matte boxes for this camera? And, does the fact that the output on the Beachtek DXA-2T and the input on the HDC-HS700 are unbalanced connections lead too poor audio quality and signal interference? I bought the Sennheiser MKE 400 shotgun mic, sight unseen, after watching one of the other videos you have on here as well as an audio-technica Pro 24-CM stereo condenser mic.

  • @TimTV83 I didn't look for a Matte Box for that camcorder, but I was looking at this one for my Sony NX5E:

Ebay search : Matte Box XL1,XL2,HVX200,EX1,EX3,GH1,5D MK II,7D

You'd just need to make sure you got the correct adapter ring size.

You should not have poor audio quality with the unbalanced audio accessories you bought, although obviously XLR balanced audio is the best option, but not available on prosumer camcorders.

  • if i put a headphone splitter on the 3.5mm out on the beachtek, and then hook up a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cord to the camera's mic input, then plug headphones into the other end of the splitter, would i be able to record and monitor at the same time? (I use the canon 550d, which, being a dslr, doesn't have a headphone output)

  • @markopolo9608 I just did a test similar to what you asked (plugging headphones directly into the 3.5mm output and it did NOT work, so unfortunately not. And even if that did work, remember that you would only be hearing what is essentially going into your Canon 550d, NOT what the final output would be as many of the DLSRs use AGC (automatic gain control) to raise of lower the incoming sound.

    Trust that helped.
