@NewLynxS Fair enough. But the fact is the visual difference between DX11 and DX9 on Crysis 2 is very slim. In fact, what ruins the game most is the horribly low resolution textures. Even with the "high resolution" pack they are just disgusting.

@320bit What I meant is that you can enginner a car to be optimized for low fuel consumption or high durability, but saying it is optimized to be from one brand just makes no sense. Similarly, you can optimize a game to run on certain hardware, but saying it's optimized for an API is as senseless as the car brand example.
Crysis 2 being optimized for consoles is no prejudice for the DirectX 11 features that were added later.
-
@NewLynxS The 7800 gpu in the PS3 is only capable of DX9 and so is the ATi chip in the 360. That is why I said that.
-
@NewLynxS Is the prius optimized to be a nissan car? I fail to see the relation. Ok, let me rephrase it, Crysis 2 is optimized to use DX9 features only since thats all both the PS3 and Xbox 360 are capable of.
-
@320bit Your "optimized for DirectX 9" story makes no sense. The PS3 doesn't use DirectX at all, and uses LibGCM. Also, you can't optimize a game for the API you use to create it, it's like saying "Prius is optimized to be a Toyota car".
Regardless, the point is that it does make a noticeable difference and it is quite demanding.
-
@NewLynxS Remember, Crysis 2 was built for the console and was optimized for DX9 not DX11. So while there was a few features added in DX11, they did not spend alot of time actually making it worth while.
-
@NewLynxS You are right, theres a big performance difference between DX9 and DX11. However, I was referring to visual quality. Yes DX11 does add tessellation, but its a relatively low level of it in Crysis 2. Hardly noticeable unless your actually looking for it. There is no "sizeable" difference between 9 and 11 in Crysis 2. Performance, yes.
-
@320bit It most certainly is not. If you look for performance tests and GPU reviews (TechSpot's HD 7970 review is a great example), you'll see even high-end offerings such as the GTX 570 and HD 6970 struggle to run Crysis 2 on its maximum settings.
If you're talking about the visual quality, DirectX 11 adds tesselation and several compute shader effects to Crysis 2, making it a sizable difference.
-
@NewLynxS You got me. However, you difference between DX9 and DX11 is slime to none right now, especially on Crysis 2.
-
@320bit You do not run Crysis 2 on maximum settings. Crysis 2 is a DirectX 11 game, so the highest settings are not available for the GeForce 8800 series GPUs.
@FuchsiaFF00FF consoles are just as good for casual as they are for hardcore games. That has nothing to do with graphics or tricks. Developers try to make the most of the hardware they are working with be that a pc or a dedicated hardware. I don't know if you've been living under a rock or what to be able to give a comment so off the mark. Even on blimmin' portables you can find hardcore games. Don't limit yourself! Best regards from player (and programmer) who can enjoy the best of both worlds!

This is sad for console players. Cry Engine 2 for pc looks better than Cry Engine 3 for consoles.
