The Brighton Uncut protest was one of over 50 that took place across the UK on Saturday December 18th. The protests targeted the multi-national and multi-billionaire, Vodafone and Sir Philip Green, who have avoided billions of pounds in tax. @anotherindiekid I totally agree, there are plenty of non x box and x factor distractors; this was actually a quote from an article about the schoolstudents demos that appeared in the Guardian, and I lifted it because I was looking for something pithy to say when I was very tired the night before the demo.It was also part of a longer rant which gave it a bit more context; can't help how people edit things!

While I agree with the sentiment and support all those involved I am uncomfortable with the phrase "go back to your x box and your x factor". For me this connotes an affilaition between 'low mass produced culture' and docile pacifity as if 'high brow' or a largely mythic 'alternitive culture' aren't complicit in distracting people from issues of inequality. The most important thing though is change and accountability from any companies that avoid taxes or act "unethically".

You don't know what the result will be.
The protests/campaigning are only starting & can influence policies.
They have already influenced the decision to close the Bright Start nursery.
