Mahalo craft expert Keltie Colleen show you how to make decorative Christmas snowflakes using standard paper.

Learn how to make a Christmas snowflake to decorate your home or Christmas tree for the holidays. Christmas snowflakes are an inexpensive craft that can be made easily by the whole family. You can be as creative as you would like by altering the size, shape and design of each one, as no two snowflakes are alike.

You will only need two items to make snowflakes. You will need a standard pair of
scissors and plain white paper. If your budget allows, you may want to choose card stock, construction paper or other paper styles. You can also purchase crafting scissors that can be found in a variety of designs. Craft scissors do not produce a straight cut, but rather a unique edge such as a jagged or wavy edge. http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Memory-Cut-Craft-Scissors/dp/B0007SN0J8

Step 1: Folding the Paper
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The first step in making Christmas snowflakes is folding the paper.http://highhopes.com/snowflakes.html If you are using an 8x10 sheet of paper, you will need to make this into a square shape. Take one corner and match it to the long end of the paper. This will leave a strip of excess paper at the bottom. Trim the extra to create a square sheet of paper. Leave the paper in a triangle shape and fold it over twice more.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrpU_eKOfkU

Step 2: Creating the Snowflake Design
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Once you have folded the paper, make note of the corner that is all folds. This is the center of the snowflake and should not be cut. Find the open end that is all edges. This end can be cut to form the outside shape of the snowflake. You can now cut shapes of all sizes into the folded paper. Once you are finished cutting, open the folded paper to reveal your Christmas snowflake.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrpU_eKOfkU

Step 3: Decorate and Display the Snowflake
---------------------------------------------------------------------

After you have cut out your snowflake, there are several ways to decorate it and make it stand out from the others. You can use colored glitter glue to give it a splash of color. You can also color the snowflake with markers, colored pencils or crayons. By covering the snowflake with glue, you can sprinkle sugar or salt on the glue to make the snowflake sparkle.http://stepbystepcc.com/snowman3.html You can show off your art by hanging the snowflakes on your Christmas tree, in your windows or in doorways by taping them or using different colored yarn or string. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrpU_eKOfkU
