Most electric motors have two coils and are designed to only run in one direction, so changing the direction that an electric motor runs requires a motor with a direct current. Change the magnetic field of an electric motor to make it run backwards with help from a science teacher in this free video on electricity and electromagnetism.

  • In a nutshell, reverse the current in the field windings OR the armature, NOT BOTH!

  • great teacher !! grazie ancora ..i'm italian

  • Funny how an English accent makes even the dumbest people sound intellectual.

  • In other woods just change the polarity.....

  • Fit a gearbox to an AC motor to change direction, are you sure bout that?

It varies upon quite a few things,

    single phase or 3 phase.

wound rotor or squirrel cage rotor

could be as simple as swapping 2 of the supply leads over or similar to like you said, change the polarity of one of the windings

  • I love Physics! well done sir
