Fit a gearbox to an AC motor to change direction, are you sure bout that?
It varies upon quite a few things,
single phase or 3 phase.
wound rotor or squirrel cage rotor
could be as simple as swapping 2 of the supply leads over or similar to like you said, change the polarity of one of the windings
