Implosion Loizeaux smokestack Demolition CDI explosion

The main smelter stack at the Kennecott Copper Facility was the 4th chimney to be demolished by Controlled Demolition Incorporated at the site as the McGill, Nevada Plant was phased out. Only 4 days were required to prepare this 55 foot diameter, 9,300 ton reinforced concrete chimney for felling. The successful demolition of this 750 foot tall chimney holds the American record for demolition of all types of chimneys, and the world record for demolition of a corbeled concrete chimney.

It's as simple as... The height of the chimney requires a navigation light & they didn't want to pay a power bill. Also the land lease said they had to return the land to "original" condition. (minus the copper)

@R3MUS2007 I was going to say the same thing ! I wonder how much it cost to get the contractors in to blow up the stack and clear the rubble ? Would have been a dam sight more than solar panels - leds - battery back up for night-time use.
