Yep, I finally am back to uploading, and I forgot I had this saved weeks ago! Lazy me...

Here's a great one! It's the original 1965 pilot of the classic celebrity tic-tac-toe game, Hollywood Squares!

Things aren't much different from the actual show here, except for a few minor things. Check it out!

  • I let this upload while I left to my Dad's for the weekend. Apperantly something went wrong with part 2, because it should be up by now.

It won't be up until Sunday afternoon, unfortunately.

  • Ironically, the last run of "(The) Hollywood Squares" with Tom Bergeron returned to CBS Television City for the first time since this pilot. in Studio 33 (later Carol Burnett Studio, now Bob Barker Studio). The stage is nowhere as spacious at the NBC stage, and the squares were much smaller and cramped compared to the NBC and syndicated Century Towers/Orion versions.

  • Vera Miles had a very early game show appearance as a contestant on You Bet Your Life before she became a movie star. I've heard a recording of the radio broadcast of the show, but haven't seen the TV version. It was the only You Bet Your Life I've ever heard where all of the contestants missed all their questions, and Vera Miles & her partner ended up in the big jackpot question with something like 2 dollars (the other two couples went broke). They didn't answer the big jackpot question either.

  • The original music by Haskell was retained, though the Loose music was later used for the end credits.

  • This has one thing besides Wally Cox and Charley Weaver that was carried over to the show when Peter Marshall took over: the main title music by Jimmie Haskell (which was replaced by the music that was composed by William Loose that was used on both the daytime and syndicated versions).

  • This is something I've been wanting to see for YEARS. I love it!

    THANK YOU!

  • This show would never have lasted with Bert Parks like it did with Peter Marshall, and certainly would not have spawned the two updated versions with John Davidson and Tom Bergeron hosting.

  • @butchboy13 And you are definitely correct. X gets the square and the win.

  • Have these 2 contestants EVER played Tic-Tac-Toe?? Their choices of strategies are terrible! And, as to the question of "Should Bert Parks have been the host of "Hollywood Squares?" "The answer is NO!" lol

  • @JayBBluejay Which makes you wonder if Dan Rowan had taken the job would that have made that future show, "Marshall & Martin's Laugh-In"?

  • @JayBBluejay - true. He did carry the Miss America shows for a great number of years. But it's just that his dramatics that he carried on the Miss America pageants just seem out of place on a show like HS.
