Our final project for this class required that we pull a clip of an award-winning performance and animate it. I chose Ian McKellen's role as Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. In the original scene, Gandalf is consoling Bilbo Baggins and convincing him to not take the One Ring with him when he leaves the Shire. As I planned out the sequence I decided against using the original staging and setting as cutting away to Bilbo's character (who is perfectly still during the sequence) would not make for a good sequence given the project's specifications. I shot my own footage and used that as reference.
Because I've taken a pre-recorded sound byte and used it in a complete different context from its original scene, I think this is probably my most ambitious project of the quarter. By now I was very familiar with how to use BasicGuy's control rig and so I was able to take advantage of its full range of facial movements and expressions. The green character's acting wasn't terribly important for the sake of the project but I still wanted to convey believable responses to the blue character's words and actions. My final grade on this project was an A.
..wow nice
