This is also reminiscent of the 1987 ABC mini-series "AMERIKA", ending with the guy trying to save the USA (Chris Kristoferson) getting murdered by a traitorous General of the "Heartland Defense Force" as he tries to broadcast his message & later buried along with the American Flag as the story's main-characters nod their approval in the background.
