A chat with Russell Oberlin: Career, musical and technical thoughts. Cinematographer: John Romeo, Sound: John Prada, Interviewer: Roberta Prada, Producers: Roberta Prada and Francis Keeping
How lovely to see this! I was one of Oberlin's students oh, so long ago. I enjoyed the classes/singing I did with him very much. I had no idea who he was or what his music career had been when I was at Hunter -- probably a good thing, as I'd have been far too afraid to sing for him had I known! I regret not finding his classes until my second semester at Hunter; I would have welcomed very much having more time with him. He is a sweetheart! Funny, knowledgeable, and kind.
It scares me what this man had to say about 'high male singing'. He seems to be very badly informed about anything historical. From his interviews, I mean. Chip on his shoulder, kind of guy.
So glad you enjoyed this. I believe there are plenty of his recordings once more available now.
